Different roles, one outcome
A good designer should be able to focus on design. A good builder should protect that intent while solving the realities of construction.
On substantial homes, the team may include an architect, interior designer, structural engineer, M&E consultants, specialist suppliers and the main contractor. The owner should not have to translate between all of them personally.
What the builder adds
- Buildability reviews before work starts
- Site measurement and verification
- Trade coordination
- Shop drawings and setting-out
- Material and sample control
- Sequence planning
- Protection of completed work
- Inspection and defect close-out
Protecting design intent
Sometimes a drawn detail cannot be built exactly as shown because the actual site condition is different. The answer should not be to quietly improvise. The builder should explain the constraint, propose workable options and return the decision to the design team where design intent is affected.
What this means for the owner
If you already have an architect or interior designer, you do not need to restart the design process with us. Bring us the drawings. We can review what is ready, identify what still needs coordination, and discuss how to execute it.
If you are starting without a designer, we can also help you understand what professional team the project may need before construction begins.
